Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini Catalog Vintage Vogue & Pawsitively Prints Card Idea by Stampin' Smiles

Was the Vintage Vogue stamp set from the Stampin' Up! 2010 Occasions Mini Catalog one that caught your eye?  The set of eight stamps (pictured below) certainly will give you a beautiful vintage look to your paper crafting projects!

My pretty designer paper is the Pawsitively Prints Designer Series Paper also from the Occasions.  This pattern is in one of my favorite color combinations - Certainly Celery and Pretty in Pink.

My flowers are stamped with Soft Suede Classic Ink.  Several of the ladies who stamped this card in my All Occasion Fast & Fabulous Cards Class asked if I stamped the vine before or after the flowers.  The answer is I stamped the flowers first and then filled in with the vines.  With the clear mount stamps, it was easy to position the stamp and stamp in between the flowers.

Stampin' Up! Vintage Labels (Free Sale-a-bration Stamp Set!) by Stampin' Smiles

Did you think the Welcome Neighbor Designer Series Paper (free Sale-a-bration item) was mostly designs of houses and clouds?  There are some, but there are so many other designs to choose from in the 48 patterns, as you can see in my card.  My card also uses the Vintage Labels stamp set (another free Sale-a-bration item!).  Love free!

The pretty scalloped circle  image and Best Wishes is from the Vintage Vogue stamp set.   The scalloped circle fit perfectly into the Scallop Circle Punch to be punched out with a little border around it.  Sure beats hand cutting!  Much neater and a huge time saver.

Stampin' Up! Vintage Labels (Free Sale-a-bration Stamp Set) Crushed Curry Card Idea by Stampin' Smiles

Did you know the three frame stamp images in the FREE* Vintage Vogue stamp set (pictured at bottom of the post) have coordinating Stampin' Up! punches to make using the set even easier and more fun?  I love getting punchy!

Wanting to use the Crushed Curry card stock and ink, I referred to the Stampin' Up! 2009-2010 In Color Combination Chart and came up with my color combination.  The combination chart used the current In Colors in combination with the 48 Stampin' Up! exclusive colors and some of the neutral colors.   On my own, I do not think I would have paired Crushed Curry with Basic Gray.   I probably would have gone for the obvious in the Earth Elements.  But, I wanted a Vintage look and not an autumn color combination.  I am very pleased with the results.

To step up my simple card, I used the Stampin' Up! Backgrounds 1 Texturz Plate (Damask) in my Big Shot.  It did the trick.

While I had my Big Shot all warmed up, I used it with the Lots of Tags Sizzlits 4-Pack Dies.

The one pictured in the lower right corner is the perfect fancy layer for the Wide Oval Punch.

Crushed Curry:  5-1/2" x 8-1/2"

Basic Gray:  3" x 4-1/4"

Going Gray:  (2) 1/2" x 4-1/4" and scrap for Lots of Tags die

White Naturals:  scrap piece to stamp and punch with Wide Oval Punch

Stampin' Up! Spring Song Card Idea Variation by Stampin' Smiles

My last post showed the card I designed for my upcoming Fast & Fabulous card class.   While most of my stampers do not enjoy watercoloring, I just love it.  It is probably my favorite technique.

Wanting my mother's birthday card to be more colorful (she looooves hummingbirds!), I took the same design as my Fast & Fabulous card and did just a bit of watercoloring.

The colors used to watercolor are Bravo Burgundy, So Saffron and Mellow Moss.  I took the Happy Birthday greeting from the Well Scripted stamp set found in the 2010 Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini Catalog.

Stampin' Smiles Spring Song Card Idea: Fast, But Still Fabulous!

My mother loves hummingbirds.  For that reason and more, I had always wanted this stamp set but kept putting off purchasing it because I thought it would have to watercolored.  While I absolutely love watercoloring, most of stampers do not share the same love for it. 

The time for putting off adding it to my collection was over!  Who can resist getting a stamp set she has been longing for when it was one of the free Sale-a-bration products?  Not this girl!  (Little happy dance).

So, wanting to use the beautiful Stampin' Up! Spring Song stamp set in my upcoming All Occasion Fast & Fabulous cards class, I set out to see what I could come up with without watercoloring.  And, this is it.  A monochromatic card with just a touch of color.

My card uses the monochromatic theme.  Monochromatic is just a big word to describe the same color ink, card stock and accessories plus a neutral color.  Monochromatic can also mean shades of one color.

I stamped the hummingbird and flower image stamp in Bravo Burgundy Classic Ink on Very Vanilla card stock.  Then layered the Very Vanilla card stock on Bravo Burgundy card stock, again on Very Vanilla card stock to rest upon on the Bravo Burgundy card stock card base.  The multiple layers keep the card from being bland.

Are you thinking I watercolored anyway?  I promise I didn't.  Classic Ink is not waterproof.  When water/moisture touches it, it will smear/run.  I quickly colored in the flowers only with my Blender Pen.  How?  I used the Blender Pen to pull the color from the stamped lines.  As you can see in the picture, the outline image looks as deep as it did before I stole some ink to color in the flowers.  Pretty cool!  This technique works understandably best with dark ink colors.

I played around until I came up with my pretty little decoration at the top of the card.  It is the Modern Label Punch in Bravo Burgundy card stock folded in half.  I used my Crop-a-Dile to easily punch through the three layers of card stock so I could add some Very Vanilla 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon.   A simple knot and there you have an elegant accent.

Bravo Burgundy:  3-3/4" x 4-1/4", 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scrap piece for punching

Very Vanilla:  3-1/2" x 4" and 4" x 4-1/2"
