Customer Creation! Circle Circus Card Idea Revised

Last year I made a very similar card with the Stampin' Up! Circle Circus stamp set. Since then, the To the Nines Specialty Designer Series Paper has retired. But, to make the card now is an easy adjustment since both Chocolate Chip and Always Artichoke exclusive Stampin' Up! colors had not retired.

Photo

Kathy Ayers hand stamped the card pictured above.   To stretch Kathy's stamping budget as far as possible, I made the suggestion of a couple of changes from the original card to use the supplies she was already purchasing to make another masculine card with Nature Silhouettes.

The changes were quite simple.  The original card stock base was switched from Always Artichoke to Early Espresso.  My Chocolate Chip 1/2" card stock strip was switched to Always Artichoke for Kathy's card.  The reason for this change was so she could use the Neutrals Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack for the other card.

BajaBreezeCajunCrazeBasicG-001 Of course, you could take this rubber stamped card idea and change it up with a completely different color scheme.  Another masculine color combination (from the Color Coach) is Baja Breeze, Cajun Craze and Basic Gray.    I might just have to give it a try.

An inky thanks to Kathy for emailing a picture of her card!

What have you rubber stamped lately?   Email a picture of it to shelly@stampinsmiles.com.  I would love to show off your artwork here!

Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini Valentine Defined Card Idea with a Video Tutorial

The Valentine Defined stamp set from the 2011 Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini Catalog is just adorable.  I used it to make this card in my video tutorial demonstrating how to get use the Stampin' Write Markers to get a multicolored stamped image.  The video is below the picture of my Valentine Defined stamp set card.

As demonstrated in my video, I used the new Sizzix 3" Circle Originals Die to die-cut my Whisper White card stock circle.  I also used one of my newest Sizzix Embossing Folder Chipboard Templates to emboss everywhere but a 3-1/2" circle in the center of my 4-1/4" x 11" card.

Order my Sizzix Embossing Folder Chipboard Templates so you, too, can emboss everywhere but . . .

Stampin’ Up! All in the Family New Baby Card Idea by Stampin’ Smiles

Do you have any new baby stamp sets?  No matter how young or old you are, there is always someone you know who is having a baby.  Having a stamp set on hand to be ready to make a birthday card is something all card makers should have on hand.

All in the Family Stampin' Up! stamp set is great for baby cards and so much more!  Isn't it great to have a versatile stamp set?  The images are pictured further down in the post.

All_in_the_Family

My new baby card is fast, yet fabulous.  What new mom wouldn't say "awww" when she got this card?

The embossed polka dot bottom of the card added texture and dressed the simple card up a bit.  I just cannot get enough of my Sizzix Big Shot!  Adding texture or a die-cut is so fast and easy.  In this busy world, fast & fabulous is a must!

Speaking of fast, having a nice assortment of punches on hand is also a great time saver.  My baby card uses four different punches.  That is not at all unusual.  On this card, I especially liked how using the Scallop Trim Border Punch coordinated with the Scallop Circle Punch and gave a decorative edge to an otherwise blunt layer.

As in any trade, having the proper tools are important to a job well done.  That our "work" is fun is completely beside the point.

Oh, in a post a week or so ago I wondered what I was going to do without my Blush Blossom for flesh tones.  No worries!  Stampin' Up! will continue to carry the Blush Blossom Stampin' Write Marker.  Yeah!

My card stock sizes and colors are

Barely Banana (retiring):  5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scrap piece for punching 1-3/8" circle

Sage Shadow (retiring):  2-1/2" x 4-1/4" and scrap piece for punch scallop circle

Whisper White:  1/2" x 4-1/4" for punching scallop border and scrap piece for stamping and punching 1-1/4" circle

Stampin’ Up! Awash with Flowers May CD Calendar Idea by Stampin’ Smiles

The 2010-2011 Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog sneak peek stamp set Awash with Flowers (images pictured below) is a very fun, versatile two-step flower stamp set.  Loaded with flowers and possibilities!

But, Awash with flowers is only available during April 2010 or wait, wait, wait until July 1 when the new Idea Book & Catalog is released.  Who wants to wait until then?  Flowers are blooming all over.  Let your paper projects bloom with the Awash with Flowers stamp set by ordering online now on www.stampinsmiles.stampinup.net!

CD_May_Calendar

My bright and cheery May CD calendar was hand-stamped with the Awash with Flowers stamp set.  It was two-stepping fun and fast.  I used the same color ink, Pink Passion, for the outline and fill flower images.

But, it looks like I used two different colors.  I stamped the outline image first, then inked my fill image, stamped once on scrap paper, and then filled in my outline flower.  This technique is called stamping off.  You "stamp off" a bit of the color before using the inked stamp on your project.  Don't you love the two-tone effect from one color?

Stamping off is guaranteed to give you two colors that coordinate.  And, it it eliminates accidentally stamping in the wrong color ink pad (our stamping hand sometimes go like wildfire!).

The splattered speckles of green were made with my Color Spritzer Tool.  My calendar needed that little something extra I talk quite often about, and the Glorious Green splatter just the look I wanted.

The Color Spritzer Tool is very cool!  Use it with any Stampin' Write Marker to add a touch of splattered color to your paper projects.  It will make you feel like a kid again!

My card stock and dimensions are

Pink Passion:  4-5/8" x 5-1/2" and 2-1/2" x 2-3/4"

Whisper White:  4-3/8" x 5-1/4" and 2" x 2-1/2"

Stampin’ Up! Introducing Stamp Set to Make 80th Birthday Party Invitations by Stampin’ Smiles

Are you ever minding your own business to end up presented with an unexpected challenge?  I was holding my monthly scrapbooking class when I received a call.  The woman was told she was referred to me for some help with a birthday card invitation design.  Would I be home the next day?

Of course, I can offer advice.  Instead, it turned out I was to do a lot more than offer advice.  Her idea was pretty cool.  The birthday party is for her mother's 80th birthday party.  She brought two photos – one of her mother as a baby and a recent photo.  She wanted the baby photo on the front of the invitation with the birth weight and the current picture inside with a message she had not yet decided on.    Have I mentioned she wanted the 50 invitations made by the next day?

80th_Birthday_Invite

My husband is the computer guy.  He scanned in the photos and did his magic.   I am not showing the full card with photos because I did not get permission.

Printed above the baby photo:  May 3, 1930:  1lb 12oz

Printed above the current photo:  May 3, 2010:  None of your business

Isn't that a hoot?

The pictures were printed in black and white.  The inside of the invitation was stamped with the Introducing and Vintage Vogue Stampin' Up! stamp sets.  The vine stamp from Vintage Vogue was stamped with Bravo Burgundy ink.  Very simple, but elegant in the simplicity.
