Does it Look Like This When You Try to Copy Hand-Stamped Card Ideas?

Do you waste time and cardstock when trying to copy hand-stamped card ideas you find?If you’ve ever looked at hand-stamped card ideas and tried to copy one, you may have had a mess like this too.

What you see is only part of the materials I wasted trying to copy a Cool Treats card from the 2017-2018 Stampin’ Up! Catalog (now retired). The card idea was cute and thought I’d save time copying it. Boy, was I wrong!

It started by guessing the wrong color for the card base which also meant for the ice cream too.  There were more scoops of ice cream that hit the trash as I tried to make mine look like the picture.

Next was the attempt to get the banners right. First, it was too wide and then too short. The third time was the charm.

You’d think the size of circles should be easy. Not so. It took a couple of attempts.

After a too much time spent and materials ruined, the handmade greeting card was done. But, something wasn’t sitting right with me. I called Stampin’ Up! to see if they could tell me what colors were used. Ah, Sweet Sugarplum! Also found out the green was supposed to be Old Olive. It still looks like Lemon Lime Twist to me in the photo. I switched my card base and ice cream cone to Sweet Sugarplum and kept Lemon Lime Twist. and was quite pleased.

Daisies do not have to yellow, while our minds tend to go there first.  How do you like the Reason to Smile daisies stamped with the new 2012-2014 In Color Raspberry Ripple?  Raspberry Ripple coordinates very well with the 2011-2013 In Color Lucky Limeade.

A closer look so you can see the "little extras" making this hand-stamped card even more special.  First notice the paper-piercing on the inside and outside edge of the Apothecary Accents Framelits die-cut.  Don't you just love it?  So easy with the coordinating Essentials Paper-Piercing Pack.  Three templates to coordinate with the
Apothecary Accents Framelits and several Stampin' Up! punches.

Also notice the pretty decorative edge made with one of the new Finishing Touches Edgelits Die.   Again, easy to create using the Big Shot Die-Cut Machine to quickly die-cut an edge.

Reason_to_Smile_Raspberry_Ripple_Double_Stitched_Ribbon

The new 3/8" Satin Double-Stitched Ribbon in the 2012-2012 In Colors is soft yet with enough body to tie into a bow.  Another great reason to love this new, can't-help-but-touch ribbon is the stitching goes through to the back.  You can tie it and have the stitching show without doing a lot of finagling you need to do when patterned on one side only.

The 2012 Stampin' Up! Catalog Ribbon/Paper Share was so helpful in being able to get two yards of each of the new ribbons.  So great to have all of them at a fraction of the cost!  If you would like to participate, there is one of the Designer Series Paper and Ribbon Shares ready to ship!  Learn more.

Sprinkled_Expressions

Let's get to the star card made with the Sprinkled Expressions stamp set.  The base of the card was made by Godby (God be) With Us Stamper Sherrie Bryant.  In the center of the Designer Frames Embossing she had stamped her greeting on the So Saffron Card Stock with Old Olive Classic Ink.  We couldn't remember which Stampin' Up! stamp set it came from.  So, I used her card and made a couple of changes to turn it into a Sale-a-bration card.

  Congrats_Card

Instead of stamping directly onto the So Saffron Card Stock, I used my Stampin' Write Markers, So Saffron, More Mustard and Old Olive, to get a variety of colors and stamped on Whisper White Card Stock.  Sherrie's color combination, So Saffron, More Mustard and Old Olive, was taken from the Color Coach.  It sure worked well for the colors of my stars.

Greeting_close_up

The stamped Whisper White piece was layered onto an Old Olive Card Stock piece.  Then I got all fancy and embossed and trimmed a So Saffron Card Stock piece with the Houndstooth Embossing Folder and filled the frame.  Upon reflection, I thought it might have been cool if I had embossed a More Mustard Card Stock piece for inside the frame.  It might have looked like I cut out the inside of the frame.   Oh well, maybe next time.

The card needed an extra touch.  My Sizzix Big Shot to the rescue!  I die-cut two stars from the Stars #2 Originals Die, one in Old Olive Card Stock and the other in More Mustard Card Stock.  With a So Saffron brad, from the Subtles Brads, in the center, all my colors were pulled together.  Nice, don't you think?
